BIODATA :

Dr. Sharad Bhaskarrao Kolte, born at Wardha on 4th August, 1936, obtained his M.Com. (1959) in Accountancy; M.A.(1961) in Economics both from the Nagpur University, Nagpur; M.A. (1969) in Economics from the University of Texas, U.S.A. and Ph.D.(1973) from the University of Pune, Pune.
Dr. S.B. Kolte has distinguished himself as a teacher, research worker and educational administrator in a professional career of over 45 years. He was the Head of Department of Commerce and Business Economics at the Ahmednagar College, Ahmednagar from 1961 to 1966; Teaching Assistant at the Department Economics, University of Texas, U.S.A. from 1967 to 1969 and again joined as the Head of the Department at the Ahmednagar College, Ahmednagar from 1969 to 1993. He was working as Professor and Head of the Department of Commerce and Management Sciences at the S P University of Pune from December, 1993 to June 1995 and joined again Ahmednagar College, Ahmednagar from June 1995.
The Ahmednagar College which belongs to the same society i.e. B.P.H.E. Society is NAAC accreditated ‘A’ grade College. Dr. S.B. Kolte was working in Ahmednagar college for 30 years Director, IMSCDR.
Since June 1996 to 2002 he was working as Director of B.P.H.E. Society’s Institute of Management Studies Career Development & Research, Ahmednagar. Since June 2002 he is working as Director General of the Institute. The Institute is affiliated to University of Pune and recognized by All India Council for Technical Education.

During his tenure as the Director of the IMS he with the support and motivation from Rev. J. Barnabas the Secretary of the B.P.H.E. Society created a State of Art Management Institute in a place like Ahmednagar. The students from all over the country take admission for Management Programme. The Institute was ranked 43’rd amongst the top 100 Business Schools in the country and 2’nd in University of Pune, according to the joint survey conducted by Business Today, COSMODE, (Hyderabad) and H.R.D Ministry, Govt. of India. The Institute is the first academic institute in the state of Maharashtra to get ISO 9001-2000 certification from B.V.Q.I. London. Dr. Kolte has established a close relationship with the industries in and around Ahmednagar which help in providing practical exposure to the students which ultimately help students for placement. Videocon International and the IMS has collaborated and established Academy of Fine & Performing Arts for girls and also a CAD/ CAM Centre. IMS has also developed partnership with New Edge Electrical Ltd., Ahmednagar.
Dr. Kolte motivated and guided the faculty members to prepare a course on Environmental Management. It was put before the University of Pune authorities and got approved. The Institute was the first one in the University to start this Post Graduate Diploma in Environment Management course. A write-up on this course in the news paper attracted the attention of few women from Shrirampur. These women approached Dr. Kolte for guidance as they wanted to get involved in environment protection. He provided guidance to these women who ultimately established a Sanstha namely “Vasundhara Vriksha Sanvardhan Samiti” So far more than 10000 trees have been planted in the city of Shrirampur and those have been properly looked after. They are continuing with their efforts seriously.
In addition he was President of Maharashtra Universities Commerce Conference Association and Co-ordinator of Western Region (Maharashtra, Gujrat & Goa) of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), the second largest network of Management Schools in the world. Since 1999, he was Executive member, Association of Indian Management Schools. As a regional Co-ordinator a Regional Conference on the theme “Partnering for Development” Industry – Business Schools Interaction was organised wherein Directors and faculty members of Busines Schools from Maharashtra, Goa and Gujrath participated. He was treasurer of AIMS during 2002-2003.
During his long standing career of 35 years, he has worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; Chairman, Board of Studies in Economics; member of the Senate, Academic Council and Executive Council and several other Committees at the University of Pune. He was also nominated by the Hon. Chancellor/ Governor, Maharashtra State, as Chairman of the Accounts Committee. Besides this he was also a member of the All India Advisory Committee of Board of Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education; All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Giants International, Ahmednagar. He was also the Deputy District Governor of Lions International. He has also been associated with a number of other educational and social institutions. He was appointed by Hon. Ex. Vice – Chancellor Dr. Narendra Jadhav as Academic Coordinator of M.B.A. programme of S P University of Pune at RAK (UAE) for a semester from May 2009 to September 2009. The University of Pune MBA at RAK (UAE) programme was started under his guidance.
Dr. Kolte was instrumental in establishing Faculty of Management in University of Pune. During his tenure as Dean, Faculty of Commerce, he felt it necessary to separate Faculty of Management from faculty of commerce. With the help of members he succeeded in separating and establishing the Faculty of Management. Not only this but the number of Boards under Faculty of Commerce was also increased from 5 to 13. This was a great achievement in the sense that the representation of Commerce and Management teachers in the Academic Council has also been increased.
Dr. Kolte has published more than 25 research papers/articles in Indian as well as International journals. He has attended four International Conferences which were held at Bangkok and Arusha, Tanzania , Malysia where he presented his research papers. Dr. Kolte has also attended a number of National /State level Seminars/Conferences. Three books written by him have been also published. Twenty students have obtained their Ph.D. Degree under his guidance in the field of Management and Commerce.
Dr. Kolte has won a number of awards for his outstanding achievements in education as well as in sports. He was given the Best Teacher Award by the Zilla Parishad, Ahmednagar in 1980; Best President Award – Lions International District in 1974. He was the Colour Holder for Badminton at the University of Nagpur during 1956-1958. He was also considered as an outstanding kabbaddi player.
While working as the Head of Department of Management Sciences, of University of Pune it was felt by him that because of the financial crunch, the State Government had decided to reduce the grants to higher education and had directed all the Universities to form a Liaison Cell for University – Industry interaction. Keeping this in view, Dr. Kolte initiated two collaborative programmes with Tata UNISYS, Bombay and ISPAT Profiles India Limited, Pune wherein a direct linkage between the Department of Commerce and Management Sciences and these two Industries were established. The expertise from these two industries involved in teaching some of the courses like Marketing, Material Management, Personal and HRD etc., and final year students being selected by these industries for placement. The students thus have access with the working of these two industries. Efforts were also made to have similar types of collaborative programmes with two more Multinational Industries and other Business House.
The I.M.S.C.D.&R. has recently completed a research project under the Quality Improvement Programme of the University of Pune. Research project is entitled as “73’rd Amendment in the constitution and its impact on Women’s participation in Panchayat Raj in Maharashtra”. The project was financed by the University of Pune. Dr. S.B. Kolte was the Chief Researcher under whom Dr. Bal Kamble and other faculty of IMS carried out the research work.
Dr. Kolte was shortlisted for the post of Vice Chancellor of North Maharashtra University. As such he was interviewed by Ex. Governer, Maharashtra, His Excellence Dr. P.C. Alexander. However luck did not favour.
